Matthew 5: 3

Our text this morning is written about the “poor in spirit”. They are blessed. How are they blessed? They have an inheritance of the kingdom of Heaven! I want that inheritance. Don’t you?

Who are the poor in spirit? I believe the poor in spirit are those who fully understand they are:

1) Spiritually bankrupt without Jesus.

2) Depraved beggars.

3) Unable to be good enough on their own.

4) Sinful in nature.

5) Born in sin. A slave to sin.

6) Fully dependent on Christ for redemption.

7) Undeserving of the grace of God.

8) Deserving of an eternity in Hell.

9) Separated from a holy God.

Because of that understanding, they fall on their faces before a holy God, through the blood of Jesus, and beg for mercy.. beg for forgiveness.. beg for grace.. And in His Love, He grants it to them. The Bible says He “lavishes” it on them! Not just a dab here, and a dab there.. He LAVISHES His Love!!! And then… this person is given a seat in Heaven!! Even though they are now rich with the Spirit of Christ, they never forget where they came from.. they never forget where their riches lie. They do not flaunt self righteousness, but rather, they give all glory to Christ! And they can not wait to tell one more person about their Savior.. His mercy.. His grace.. His love..I hope you are that person today…

Verse 3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
