Psalm 1: 1-2
Today’s text reminds us that blessings come from being a student of God’s Word. A student of God’s Word has certain characteristics. They do not walk with the wicked. They do not do what unrepentant sinners do. They do not mock the things of God. And God’s Word changes them. Their delight is in the things of God. They love and cherish the Bible, and learning more and more about the Kingdom of God. They are a disciple – a learner. For them, church is a natural out flowing of their delight – a place where learning happens – a place where growth happens.
Are you a learner, a student of God’s Word? Do you get alone with God’s Word? Do you listen to preaching of God’s Word? Do you study God’s Word with other learners? Let me encourage you this morning to delight in God’s Word. There are blessings there. There is life, abundant life there. There is hope there. There is a God of love there.
Father, thank you for your Word. Forgive me for not valuing it enough. Help me and my friends today to grow our desire, our delight, for you and your Word. Thank you for Jesus, who lived, and died, and was resurrected for my sins.
Verse 1 “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; 2. but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.”
