Acts 1: 8
We have Luke’s account of Jesus’ last words on earth, before He returned to His Father. The apostles had asked a question. They were concerned about an earthly kingdom. Jesus had spoken about the signs of His return before, and His focus was not on that now, but on the work that His followers has to do. His time had come to go away, so He reminded them that He was not leaving them alone, without His power. He basically said.. don’t worry about that right now, because “we” have work to do! Why “we”? Because Jesus did not leave the apostles or us alone! He says “you will receive power “when” My Spirit comes upon you”. “and you will be my witnesses”…
Did you know, friends, that Ephesians says that when we believe and are saved, the “promised” Holy Spirit seals us?So now, we can take the words of Jesus in Acts toward us! We have the power of His Spirit in us! Have you turned it on? Have I? It’s like a light switch. We can have electricity. We can have a light bulb. We can even have a light switch. But if we never “turn it on”, it does no one any good! Will you “flip the switch” today? Read His Word. Seek Him in prayer. Renew your mind daily. Look to Him. Replace worry with faith. All these things will allow His Spirit to rise up in you!
Father, thank you for your Spirit in us. Fill us with your Spirit, your power. Help me and my friends to seek you first and foremost in our lives, and oh.. let us be your witnesses! Thank you for Jesus who took our sins away.
Verse 8 “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
