Welcome. My prayer is that each of these devotionals is a blessing to you and encourage you in your walk with Jesus or help to lead you to Him.

Today’s text from 3 John, reminds us that we are known by our “fruit”, or what we do. John was writing to a person in the church about someone who did not have good fruit, but was a divider, and who refuse John’s authority. It seems that the devil can always find someone in a church, who will not submit to authority. John reminds us all that we are not to follow or imitate those people, because they are not from God.

Why would John write that? Because they get their power from those who follow them. Take their followers away and they have no power to lead others astray. So, let me ask you… Are you one who has a hard time submitting to authority? Wait. Don’t skim over that question.. Are you one who has a hard time submitting to authority? Do you try to get people to follow you, instead of the authority God has established? After all, there is no authority except that which God establishes… Are you causing division over a hill that is not worthy to die on? Don’t be that person…

It is our human nature to be rebellious, but if we are saved, we are to put off our human sin nature, and put on the nature of Christ. That nature is love. That nature is submission. That nature is unity.

Father… oh how we need you today.. I ask you to rise up within those of us who belong to you, and help me and my friends to submit to authority. Help us to recognize those who are not yours, and do not allow us to get caught up in following them. Thank you for Jesus, who submitted to your authority, and died so we could be free of our sin…

Verse 11 “Beloved, do not imitate evil but imitate good. Whoever does good is from God; whoever does evil has not seen God.”
