Proverbs 19: 11
Proverbs is such a delight, and full of wisdom! Today’s text is no different. Good sense, or wisdom, or discretion… That’s what a man has, who is not easily angered. He does not jump into the fire of knee-jerk reactions, when something happens to him or around him. Do you know that person? Then when he is offended, he climbs right over it, almost as if nothing had happened.. forgiveness is his close companion, and seems to flow out of who he is. He forgives before even being asked to forgive. It’s just his nature..
What about you friend? Are you easily angered? Are you easily offended? Do you hold on to things that drag you down? See, the devil would have you and me go through life every day, being angry about something someone did to us. He would have us get offended at every little thing that came our way. Who are you listening to? The sin nature in you.. or the Christ nature in you? Won’t you allow your freedom in Christ to rule? The freedom to just let offenses flow through your life, like water flows through a mountainside creek. Do you know why a mountainside creek is so clear? Because all the dirt, sand, and junk in that water can not stay flowing, but it all falls to the bottom, which allows the refreshing, clear water to continue down the mountainside… Friend, will you let offenses fall to the bottom in your life? Forgiveness will allow your speech, and your actions to be as pure as clear water. Then, you can continue through life, free of all the junk that makes you muddy.. Don’t be muddy…
Father, thank you for reminding us to let it go.. to be quick to overlook an offense. To be quick to forgive. Help me and my friends to be “clear” today, as we flow through life. Thank you for Jesus, who was quick to forgive me, and quick to shed His blood, so that I could be free of my sin..
Verse 11 “Good sense makes one slow to anger, and it is his glory to overlook an offense.”
