Genesis 4: 7
This text was spoken to Cain by God. Cain’s offering had not been accepted, but Abel’s offering was. Cain was angry over this, and God, here in His spoken words, was giving an offer for Cain to repent, and turn from his anger, his sin, and take control over his sin nature. We know that he did not repent and ended up shedding the innocent blood of his brother Abel, because of his refusal to repent, and therefore gave victory to sin, rather than to redemption.
Did you know friend, that battle happens every day in our lives? Our sin nature desires to rise up, and we must continually defeat it. We defeat our sin nature through the power of the Holy Spirit of God. How do we stay battle ready? I’m glad you asked.. We spend time with the One who holds all power in His holy and mighty hands. We listen to Him speak from the book that He wrote. It’s called the Bible. We gather with other believers to worship our creator God. Cain made the decision to not listen to the redeeming voice of God, but rather, he listened to the destructive power of sin within him. It happens in the lives of many people today. They refuse God’s loving offer of forgiveness and redemption through the blood of Jesus. They continue in their sin.
What is your choice today? Do you know Him? Are you battle ready? Do you listen to Christ? Are you gathering with other worshipers?
Father, thank you for your Spirit who wins the battle for us, if we will just submit to you. Help me and my friends today to desire to rule over our sin. Help us to not submit to the destructive power of sin.. Increase our hunger for you and your Word, and your church. Thank you for Jesus, who gives us the victory every day, and who took all our sin away on that old cross..
Verse 7 “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin is crouching at the door. Its desire is for you, but you must rule over it.”
